Our trees, producing this exquisite extra virgin olive oil, are growing in Corinth, Greece, in the area of Assos, since 1960.
These lands were particularly fertile and old, and have been linked with the cultivation of olive trees since the ancient times.
Ancient Corinthians (Proto-Corinthian period) used a specific kind of vessel, the aryballos, made of clay, to contain the olive oil.
The rich soil, the great sunshine, the sea breeze and the special climate of the region create the perfect conditions for the production of top quality oil.
The olive varieties grown in the Corinthian region found the ideal conditions to offer us the unique gift of the Corinthian olive oil.
From ancient sources we know Assos, bearing the name Asai in the past, was situaded in the rural area outside the walls of the Ancient city of Corinth in Peloponnese. Pausanias mentions the presence of olive trees in Ancient Corinth.
Moreover Stephanus of Byzantium (6th century A.D.), author of the geographical dictionary Ethnica, states the following places in the area of Corinth: a. three towns: Kechrees, Coronea and Chalcis, b. one polychne (small town): Sollion (from Thucydides) and six kome (unwalled villages): Tenea, Crommyon, Mausos, Sidous, Solygeia and of course Asai (Assos). Assos, Agia Marina and Veliniatika constitute the modern municipality of Assos.
Still, the olive tree is tightly linked to the cultural heritage, customs and economic life of the region.
These fruitful and productive trees were cultivated by our grandfathers, later by our parents and, now they were passed on to us, the younger generation of the Theodorou family, working towards restarting Greece, like all Greeks of our generation.
Our goal is to marry tradition with modern technology and excellence and show to the world the exquisite quality of the Greek olive oil. Educating the public about how to choose the best olive oil is mandatory for us.
No artificial elements, no additives, no other interventions are used in the process of the final product (cultivation, harvesting, oil extraction and standardization), which means we produce a 100% natural product.
Our company produces extra virgin olive oil in the wider region collaborating with local farmers. Last but not least, we take all necessary actions to protect the environment during the process.
Our olive oil is a golden green color, a medium to intense distinctive fruity aroma, a rich refreshing taste and a lasting aftertaste.
The fruity aroma is the most important criteria when looking for an extra virgin olive oil.
Our olive oil also has a slight bitter taste and spicy, pungent, intense kinesthetic feel, and this results in an excellent balance.
It does not have much complexity in other fragrances so this makes it characteristic, and the consumer can distinguish green leaf fragrances, fresh grass fragrances and an overall intense freshness.
