Seventeen large trees sprout from the roof of a small stone temple in the Vasta area of Megalopolis.
At the foundation of it, the waters of a river gush. Architects and agronomists see it as a scientifically inexplicable phenomenon that plane trees have been around for so many years and under these conditions. This is the church of Agia Theodora which is a unique phenomenon.
The chapel stands beside the waters of a torrent that crosses the Haradros River and though small in size impresses every visitor trying to understand the existence of the 17 tall trees on his roof and without a trace of root at the bottom of the roof or inside.
At first glance they appear to be coming directly from his roof and their trunks branching toward the sky. That's not the case though.
In fact, the roots of the trees passing through the walls end up in the ground, while the trunks and branches climb up and find a way out of the roof.
As for the interior, we can say that it is a very small space, unobtrusive and without any special decorations and eccentricities.
According to tradition, Saint Theodora testified of her faith in the area. Before dying, she is said to have begged God, her hair to become trees, her river blood and her temple body.
It is celebrated on September 11, but thousands of pilgrims visit the chapel year-round to worship and admire this unique complex.
