The experiences at the Kinsterna Hotel

They are unique

Αctivities

Finding joy in meaningful activities

The tour of the mansion offers the visitor the opportunity to observe the architectural details of the construction, to walk along the paths between the gardens enjoying the vibrant colours and aromas of the plants (more than 250 species), to visit the old olive grove, the wood-fired oven and our antique shop.

Baking country bread

Learn how our local village baker sifts and kneads traditional bread dough by hand. Help her bake bread in the old stone oven or watch how she artfully creates hot, sumptuous loaves of bread while sipping a Greek coffee.

Adventurous bakers are invited to participate in the process and help knead some local ingredients, such as oregano, olives or raisins, into the loaves of bread.

Horse riding with an instructor

Whether you seek a countryside adventure or a gentle horseback ride on the estate horse riding offers an unrivaled experience for all abilities.

Private cooking lessons

We share with you our knowledge and passion for Greek and Mediterranean cuisine through private cooking lessons at the mansion.

The romantic mood and the ritual of gathering are endorsed with a lunch of the menu that you have prepared yourself.

Cycling

Enjoy the natural environment while cycling around the estate and the green hills surrounding it. Kinsterna offers bikes for this very purpose.

The picturesque castle town of Monemvasia is just 7 kilometres away, and part of the route runs alongside the sea, making the journey a pleasant one.

Harvesting of olives and production of oil

The production of olive oil is one of Greece’s most important agricultural activities – and has been for thousands of years.

When the olives are ready, our guests go to the orchard, where the gardener demonstrates how the olives are harvested and then helps visitors to gather the fruit by hand with small rakes and olive nets placed on the ground.

The olives are then crushed in the old stone olive mill using traditional methods in order to produce the season’s fresh oil. Whoever so desires may also prepare table olives (for eating) according to Kinsterna’s simple traditional recipe – and taste olive oil with various delicacies prepared by our Chef.

Adopt an olive tree

Guests choosing to celebrate an important life event at Kinsterna, such as a wedding or baptism, will create unique memories and forge a lifetime emotional bond with the mansion!

A symbolic action that will further strengthen your ties with the estate is to plant a seedling olive tree, whose centuries-old nature symbolises fertility, protection and immortality.

The planting will take place on a specially designed terrace on the estate, and you will receive a Certificate of Adoption.

Our experienced staff will nurture the tree and will undertake to keep you informed of its development, sending you a photograph each year, as well as a bottle of extra virgin olive oil and a jar of olives, if desired.

Enjoy the harvest and pressing of grapes

Take part in the harvest of grapes from the 5-acre vineyardon the hill directly across from the mansion. The traditional ritual of crushing the grapes is performed with bare feet as in ancient times – in the tub or “patitiri”.

At the same time, fresh village-style bread is baked in the old stone (wood-fired) oven, and there is a demonstration of how to make old-fashioned grape-must pudding.

Wine tasting

Our private wine tasting sessions in the wine cellar or on the terrace will delight amateurs and connoisseurs alike.

Learn about the local varieties of grapes and their characteristics, experience new bouquets and sample the finest wines in the region, including both Kinsterna wines and the Malvasia variety wine, renowned for its exceptional quality since 1340 AD.

Experts also offer tips on serving and selecting the right wine for the meal during the tasting.
