Anavalos Beach

Anavalos Beach

One of the the various, quiet beaches that you can meet on the way from Astros to Argolida, before Kiveri and after Xiropigado.

The beach is on the border of the two regions and offers sand and clean water, since it took its name from the underwater source of fresh water of Anavalos that moves to Kynouria and Argolida.

In the area there is the woman monastery of St.Makrina (sister of St.Vassiliou) that started building in 1971 in the Bishopric of Argolida and nowadays there are children' s campsites.

The monastery celebrates on 19th July. Today there are 12 nuns and Mother Makrina.

An… island in the embrace of Arcadia

Where Kynouria reaches the sea, where the Argolic Gulf wets with its waters the lacy beaches, ignoring the line that we people draw to separate them in Argolic and Arcadian beaches, is Astros.

It is a village that is split in… two, the Inner village with its square, adorned with traditional cafeterias, and the Coastal village with its Island”, the hill with the preserved houses and the medieval castle on its top.

The small distance that separates it from Tripoli and from Athens has made Astros a popular destination for the summer weekends.
